New fitness and weight loss goals can feel very distant. It’s easy to start out with lots of energy and lofty ambition, but the day-to-day challenges of reaching a distant goal may wear down that energy. Why isn’t that something that happens to everybody? There are people out there who have gotten rid of their weight and kept it that way. What is their secret?
Choosing your fitness goal is step number one. Can you visualize a certain number that you would like to see on the scale? Are you losing weight so that you can buy the new clothing styles in trimmer sizes, or do you really want to feel better in your own clothing that has become too tight and restrictive? Ask yourself whether you want some extra energy, or just to feel like you are in better shape.
Each week, you should chart your progress, so you know if you are improving. Write things down in a journal and make sure you weigh in at least once a week. Your journal should include a food diary so that you can keep track of your daily eating habits. Knowing all the details are right there in black and white serves to keep you on track.
Don’t wait until your stomach is rumbling before making a decision about what you will put into it. When hunger is gnawing at us, all our best intentions regarding eating right are tossed to the wind. To prevent making poor decisions, keep healthy snacks handy, and put some advance thought into your meal preparations. Try to pack your lunch rather than dining out. Using this approach, you can lose unwanted pounds and retain wanted dollars, which are both ideas that should appeal to anyone.
A healthy diet and exercise plan are two integral parts of any weight loss strategy. Try to exercise 3 or 4 times a week, but be sure to allow a few days a week for your body to rest. Do not let boredom get a hold of you, take every opportunity to make having fun your primary goal. For instance, if dancing is your thing, how about signing up for a dance class?
A key step in getting yourself healthy is to throw away all the junk food and temptations in your home. If you have an ample amount of healthful choices on hand, the temptation to reach for junk food will diminish. If you get rid of foods that are unhealthy from your house, you will not have access to any of those snacks that add to your weight.
Inform others of your workout goals. Your family’s support can be the inspiration you need to continue working on your weight loss goal. Get together with your supporters when you feel like quitting so you can get motivated again.
